Silver Lake Lofts

The Evolution of Silver Lake

Home to many shops and a thriving alternative music scene, the Silver Lake district is east of Hollywood, five miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, with boundaries to the east at Elysian Park, Filipino town on the south, and Atwater Village due north. Silver Lake's central position accounts for the rising value and demand for Silver Lake real estate over the years.

Many neighborhoods in the community offer diverse living spaces to choose from. This includes Silver Lake lofts, condominiums, townhouses and single family dwellings. It’s a place where you can slow yourself down and relax. Silver Lake, simply put, is a place wherein anyone can find perfect Silver Lake real estate.

The 44,000 who populate the place come from a great mix of ethnic
backgrounds and social spectrum. A wonderful friendly community where neighbors live harmoniously among each other. It is not surprising that more people decide to relocate here because of the community’s welcoming attitude.

The area has progressed immensely since Scottish Hugo Reid initially laid eyes on its rolling hills in the beginning of the 20th century. It is said that memories of the hills of Scotland immediately came to his mind, and as such, he decided to name the land Ivanhoe, after Sir Walter Scott's well-known novel. Soon after, the name would be changed to Edendale. Eventually, the place would become known as Silver Lake, which is the name that it goes by up to this very day.

The transformation of the name to what it is at present was brought about by the man-made reservoir, which is the center of the entire community. The body of water that is divided into an upper and lower section was called Silver Lake for Mr. Herman Silver, a member of the original Board of Water Commissioners. And it is because of this oasis in the midst of hilly lands that the area is called Silver Lake.

Silver Lake homes come in all price ranges but have been experiencing a rise in value due to the gentrification the area has experienced in recent years. Some of the older homes have been rehabilitated and the neighborhood is more beautiful than it has ever been. Businesses are thriving; new shopping venues and dining choices create an atmosphere of progress for those who already reside here and for those who are just starting to look at Silver Lake homes for sale.

With views of the shimmering reservoir and its tall eucalyptus trees against urban sprawl makes the district one of contrasts. Red Car lines once rolled along Sunset Boulevard and Riverside Drive as it ferried owners of Silver Lake homes to where they needed to go. Now, only remnants of the foundation of the Red Car Bridge can be found. Time has changed the community and it is this constant change that makes Silver Lake appealing to so many.
