Home to many shops and a thriving alternative music scene, the Silver Lake district is east of Hollywood, five miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles, with boundaries to the east at Elysian Park, Filipino town on the south, and Atwater Village due north. Soon after, the name would be changed to Edendale. Eventually, the place would become known as Silver Lake, which is the name that it goes by up to this very day.
The transformation of the name to what it is at present was brought about by the man-made reservoir, which is the center of the entire community. The body of water that is divided into an upper and lower section was called Silver Lake for Mr. Herman Silver, a member of the original Board of Water Commissioners. And it is because of this oasis in the midst of hilly lands that the area is called Silver Lake.
